Downtown Halifax...

Is freaking nuts. Holy cow. The snow is not cleaned very well, which leaves some of the side roads barely two lanes.

We got stuck in a little traffic jam because someone wanted to turn left into a driveway that was blocked by a car behind me, but I couldn't go anywhere because there was a car parked on the side of the road and another car coming towards me, leaving me nowhere to go. Finally the left turner realized what was going on and drove straight.

Anyway. Daughter is at Park Lane again this afternoon for Junior Achievement, and I wasn't about to spend another two hours in the hell hole called Park Lane.

What an awful mall it is. Do you know, there is not one store there that sells magazines. The last time I thought I would hit the coffee shop and peruse a magazine, while I waited for her. That plan was soon foiled. If it was timed right I could have gone to a movie, but that wasn't going to happen either. So I spent the two hours walking aimlessly in the halls of doom and gloom.

This time I thought I would drop the girls off and hit a real mall. Problem was I didn't know where any of them were in relation to where I was. So I drove aimlessly until I arrived here. Another vacant mall. I'm not too far now from Bayers lake, but by the time I get out there. Find a parking spot, I'd have to turn around again and go pick the girls up. I think I will avoid the hassle and go back to Park Lane, grab a coffee and surf the net from the palm of my hand.

Oh wait. I don't have any cash. I'm not even going to bother looking for an RBC bank machine. I'll pay the extra fees and use the TD machine that's right here.

Wish me luck on my trek back to Park Lane.

I can't wait to get back to Dartmouth.

hice hice baby

Holy cow that was a lot ice to scrape. We had yet another snow storm yesterday. Not that I'm complaining. Cha-ching.

About 4:30 it turned to freezing rain. THAT. I'm complaining about. Yuck. What a mess. I got home from work last night about 5:30 and left my car. Over the next couple of hours it was sort of a snow freezing rain mix. Hind sight, of course is 20/20. I should have gone out and cleaned the gook off my car last night. I had an inch of ice on my car this morning.

It's only 9 am and I need a nap.

Groundhog day

Groundhog day.

Just a quick note to say that Shubeacadie Sam saw his shadow this morning, so 6 more weeks of winter.

The farmers almanac also said there was going to be three major storms in February.

That's fine by me. As long as the temperature stays in the single minuses, which is what snow usually means, then have at it. Plus it's good on the pocket book too.

Expect the worst...

So here I sit at work. Twiddling my thumbs, errr curve. We are so excruciatingly slow these days. I'm dreaming of camping days, and with reserve campground owner days. Luc is so gung ho about this. But I'm thinking this might not happen this year.

Expect the worst and then be surprised with the good news.

Well, that, and the prospect scares the bejezus out of me. This is one huge leap. HUGE.

No More Tim Horton bitching

I won't be able to bitch about what a horrid place that particular Tim Horton's is to work at.

Court's probations was up last night and they let her go. Oh well. She is thrilled, she hated working there anyway, and was looking for something else.

Over the three months that she was there the only thing that they brought to her attention was that she was putting too many shift requests in the book. ie, she wasn't flexible enough.

Which is really interesting considering that Tim Horton's corporate policy is flexible scheduling.

See here.. http://www.timhortons.com/en/join/team-2.html The perks of the job...

*Flexible schedules
*Convenient locations
*Competitive wages
*Free uniforms*
*Advancement opportunities*
*Comprehensive training
*Incentive and recognition programs*
*Health and dental benefits*
*Tim Hortons scholarship program
*Community involvement

Onward and upward!

Cora's was a huge disappointment

I can't get over how BAD Cora's was today. Horrendous comes to mind.

A rep came into work last week offering free lunch's for their Burnside location. I usually really like Cora's food, so I thought this was the cat's meow. Oh how I was so wrong. So very wrong.

I've been to the Cora's in Burnside before and we had a great time and the food was fantastic.

To make a long story short, we waited 10 minutes to get seated. The place although empty looked like it hadn't been cleaned all morning of dishes. The hostess had to clean a table for us to sit at. It was probably another 10 minutes before our orders were taken.

There was a couple of guys that came in at the same time we did. They were served and left before we even got our food.

When we finally did get it, mine was burnt and dried out from sitting under the heat lamp for so long. Luc's steak was tough as leather.

Overall a bad experience, and I won't be going back anytime soon for lunch.

I want to invent something.

Nah, not really. Although I would like to come up with some crafty idea for a tech recharger holder somethin’ or other.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I have recharging cords all over the place. We have cell phones, palm pilots, mp3 players, GPS’s, blue tooth headsets. And all of these gadgets have cords to recharge the batteries. They are in the kitchen. They are in the bedrooms. They are in the living room, the rec room. And when you want to clean up one of these rooms and make it look at least somewhat presentable when you have company coming, or you just can’t stand the sight of clutter, they invariably get lost because everyone decides they have a different place to put these cords.

I was thinking of something kind of boxy with a hole in it. The hole of course is for the cord for the power bar (Yes, one more cord). Each of the gadget plugs would be inside the pretty box, plugged into the power bar. When you need to plug something in, everything’s right there waiting for you. Everything is mostly out of sight, and if for whatever reason, you do need to get rid of the “box” it is self contained, and would hide away in a closet, under a bed or whatever.

A fabric covered shoe box, would probably fit the bill.

So, I wonder, if you had a need for something like that, what would you like to see?

Pineapple Shit

As stolen from Mikipedia from twitter.

8 pieces of white bread
4 eggs
1 stick butter
1.5 cups sugar
1 large can crushed pineapple
1 tsp vanilla extract

Leave bread out for a couple hours to get kind of hard. Then break it into bite size pieces. Put in large bowl and add full can of crushed pineapple (including the syrup). Mix with eggs, sugar and vanilla. Scoop into baking dish. Cut stick of butter into slices. Push slices of butter into the mixture so they melt in the oven. Bake at 350 for 1 hour or until the top starts to brown. Yummy!

Elvis should have been a dentist

HA HA. OH MY. I had to take Pat to the dentist tonight for a filling.

He's pulling an Elvis. You know. The Elvis lip. But 10 times worse. It's like botox on one half of his face. Too funny.
Now, I'm not laughing at him. I seriously am laughing with him. I tried to explain to him why, but between the bouts of belly wrenching, tear rolling laughing, he didn't believe me.
I tried to take a picture, but he wouldn't let me. *kids*
I love Elvis, by the way. *sigh*
I remember getting a filling once, and having to take the bus home after. You get a little kick out of one half of your face not functioning the way it's supposed to. So, it makes you smile. Only when you smile you are more aware of the fact that one half of your face is frozen. You think "hmm. I must look pretty funny smiling with one half of my face and the other half not moving" Which makes you smile even more. Which sets off a catastrophic chain of events which of course, results in belly wrenching, tear rolling laughter.
But what's even funnier is that he missed a school dance tonight. And I did feel bad that he missed the dance because of this appointment. We were on the way home long before the dance was over, and long before he was pulling an Elvis, and I said I would drop him off at the dance if he wanted to go. He declined. In my fit of laughter, Pat promptly brought up that I suggested he go to the dance. Of course. More laughter ensued.
I guess I'm done this post. Survivor is on. 8-)

Carrie Underwood

We went to the Carrie Underwood concert last night. She is very good in concert. She seems pretty genuine too when she talks. Nice girl.

I have to say, I did get a kick out of her wardrobe changes and her mic changes. Yep. She changed the sparklies on her mic, and I thought it was cool. LOL.
Here are a couple of pictures.

This is Little Big Town. They were great. There are four singers, and their harmonies are awesome. Just the voices, and guitars. Great Great Great. A couple of their songs are Boondocks, Good as Gone, and they sang with sugarland and some other dude, LOL, on Life in a Northern Town.

So now some Carrie.

This was costume #1, with a pretty sparkly pink mic. HA. She brought this little girl up on stage to help her sing All American Girl. It was her 4th birthday yesterday.

Costume #2. I was thinking. She might have come out of the stage with that dress on, but there is no way in hell she's getting back down there with that dress on.

And of course, she didn't.

The dress was literally ripped away to reveal this little number.

This was the next one.

Who is Camilla?

So I had a dream last night I wanted to share.

I was walking through a grocery store and a lady hmmm, no girl. Lady just seems older than she looked. This girl introduced herself as Camilla. She was very petite. She was black, but her skin was very light. And her complexion was flawless. She had a round face. Her hair was tied back in braids. Very pretty.

Apparently we went to high school together. (No, I never went to high school with a Camilla).

Her attire? It was unremarkable for the most part. I think a jacket. But I did focus on her feet. She was wearing one cowboy boot, and one hiking boot. I did notice that the cowboy boot was very worn.

Camilla came into the grocery store with a couple of people. I'm a little hazy now. I seem to remember one. She had some sort of disability. Learning maybe. Blonde. Shoulder length hair. Glasses. She kept asking me where I lived. I told her the sub division and she picked a street where someone lived. "No". "Do you live on M Drive where Kanye lives?" (Where in the hell did that come from?), "No, I live close on C. Drive"

So that was my dream.

Can you say brat?

Here is a text message from Monday.

Court: Umm Yeah? Your going to drive me to soccer at 8 right.

Me: Yes, but I will be cranky if you make me sit outside and watch.

Court: You have to sit outside and watch. And you have to like it.

Me: But… But… But…

Court: You can bring sweaters and blankets and a campfire if you wish.

Me: Yes. A campfire. That’s it. I will build a campfire, then police will come and put me in the nice warm jail.

Court: Sweet. I’ll talk them into letting me drive the stang home.

Me: Hmpf. I get sent to jail, and all you care about is driving the stang. Some daughter you are.

Court: I know right. :-)

Apparently I don't listen

Apparently I don’t listen

Here I sit at work, vaguely remembering that Court had told me that she has a soccer game and that I need to pick her up after work. For the life of me, I don’t remember what day it was, is it today? I think it must be. Because she works tomorrow and Wednesday. Oh and I’m not going to have the camera to take pictures for her CAS hours. Because I didn’t remember that either.

Now that’s not really too bad. Oops, I forgot. My bad.

Except…

Yesterday, she called me at 1:30 because I was supposed to pick her up after her practice, and I don’t remember her asking me AT. ALL.

Except…

Saturday morning Pat had a paint ball party to go to. For whatever reason, I thought the party started at 9am. So we got up at 7:30 ish on a Saturday morning. Hit the road at 8:00 to get there by 9. As we are getting lost, which is another post unto itself, Pat informs me that it doesn’t start until 10, and that he told me this a dozen times. DOH! In the end we got there at the time we were supposed to because I got so very very lost.

Except...

That Saturday morning when Pat and I got lost, I called the company and got directions, and got lost even further. I had to call the company three times to get to where I needed to be.

Reading some Cards

*sigh*

You know. I take my cards to work. I should actually take a break at work and read some.

Alright, so three cards. Situation - Advice - Outcome

*shuffle* *shuffle* *shuffle*

I saw tarot cards at the dollar store a few months ago. I thought about picking some up, but I didn't bother. Now I wish I had. They were a very poorly constructed Rider Waite deck. Bad. Bad. Bad. They wouldn't have worked for reading AT. ALL. But they would have been great for scrapbooking.

Anyway.

*shuffle* *shuffle* *shuffle* Gah. I don't want to look at them. :-(

Can I procrastinate any more.

*shuffle* *shuffle* *shuffle*

Hey, that girl looks like Laurie Lauchlan on 90210.

Yea, I know. Get to it.

*shuffle* *shuffle* *shuffle*

three of cups - three of swords - The Magician

Three of Cups

Friendship and community. :-(

Yea, I know what that's about.

Three of Swords

People usually confuse this card. And discuss a broken heart. A broken heart suggests emotion. Cups are emotion. There is emotion in my first card. This card is about thoughts and communication. And the pain associated with thinking bad thoughts. Which of course leads to a broken heart. But they are not the same thing.

The Magician

Ah. Yes. Power. And taking back my power. And not letting someone else have the power.

Doing things that need to be done.
This is a card about a life lesson, and it's right at the beginning.
It is what it is.
Well, I'm going to bed now. But I'm going to meditate on these cards and get some more insight.

My to do list for this evening

Everytime I start to think about what I need to do tonight, the list gets longer and longer. I’ve been putting stuff off, and now it’s just a never ending list.

So here goes;

I have to make two pounds of beef jerky, I have to clean my craft nook, it would be nice to be able to start a scrap book page, or a card, I have to play at least 30 minutes on the guitar, and 30 minutes on the Wii Fit. Oh yea, I still haven’t gotten that damn Mii yet, so I have to do a couple grand prix’s on Mario Kart. Luc wants me to help him with a couple of signs. I NEED to watch Big Brother too. And somewhere in there, I have to pick Courtney up from work, and take her to the soccer registration.

I also thought about an interesting Tarot project. One of the topics on H! yesterday was Haiku your day. I love Haikus. Love them. So I thought, how about a Haiku for each card.

Here’s a couple to start

The Fool

A new beginning
Listen to the voice inside
Head not in the clouds

The Magician

You have all the tools
Use them to your advantage
Watch the magic act

They can "Kiss my Grits"

So, Luc, Court and I are sitting watching TV last night when the phone rings. It’s Court’s school. They have an automated message center where they can call out prerecorded messages to parents. It’s a pretty cool idea. And it was pretty handy last year when the school had all that trouble.

Anyway, the message last night was that school was starting tomorrow and that the students were required to have their $50 student fees in either a money order or certified cheque. They weren’t going to accept cash or personal cheques. WTF!!!!

You call me 12 hours before school starts, after the banks are closed and say that my kid needs a money order or certified cheque. WTFever.

So off Courtney goes to her room after she throws a hissy fit because I’m not going to take time off work to go get her a money order from the bank in the morning, and pulls out the letter from last year, calls one of her friends about the phone call and comes back with letter in hand that says they will accept cash.

I told her “Good, you take the cash and your letter and if they have a problem with it, they can call me”

The freaking nerve. GAH!

I had a Mom flashback. I can’t remember where she got it from, but I can remember her saying “They can KISS MY GRITS” LOL. Funny stuff. I had to look it up. Flo from the sitcom Alice used to say it.

Anyway, later on Luc went to go get some groceries and get the cash (back) for Court. There was a woman in front of him that got the $50 cash back too and gave it to her son that was standing with her.

On a positive note though, at least the phone call worked and I’m sure there are at least two students that have their $50, regardless of mo

Summer's Over

Well that's it. The last long weekend of summer. The last of our camping for this year. School starts on Wednesday.

We were camping this weekend at Riverland. We were in swamp land. We couldn't even sit out under the awning in the rain the ground was so soft. We ruined the lot with our truck. It was bad.

I'm really not impressed with our camping this summer. It doesn't feel like we did nearly enough.

With Luc not working, we didn't do much camping in July in preparation for our big trip, but it seems like it's been raining since we went.

We were talking again about going seasonal again. Especially with weather like we've had. It's just plain gross camping in the rain. Even in a motor home. Blech. But I think we decided against it again.

Now that we are seeing all the different campgrounds, Riverland really isn't that shit hot, to be honest. We like the people and we know most of them, but when it comes right down to it, it's not worth the money that goes into paying for it.

I was just thinking that we went to Luc's parents at the beginning of October last year in the hard top. Maybe we will make one more trip in the motorhome. That would be a good time to go.

Either that or I think I will spring a trip to Toronto, to see Terri Clark for our anniversary. Oh wait, I'm the fan not him. hee hee.
